Objective/Contents: The aim of this course is to teach alphabet and grammar that is necessary to read New Ottoman texts which had been written in Ottoman Turkish.

Objective/Contents: It includes innovations of Turkish cultural life and declaration after dectorotion of Tanzimat(the political reforms made in the Ottoman state) in 1839 and new type of literature (new poem and novel ) which comes from Western literature, forms and contents.

TDE 212 TURKISH FOLK LITERATURE IV

2 hrs/week, theory , 2 Credits, 2 ECTS
Objective/Contents: Differences and similarities among such genres as "proverb," "idiom," "synonym," "pairing" and "slang" are studied. The folk wisdom that appears in proverbs are examined. Riddles, lullabies and folk theater (shadow puppetry, teatro dell'arte, one-man-show) are taken up both through text interpretations and from the point of view of peculiarities of the genres.

Objective/Contents: From the first example of the Turkish novel, Taaşşuk-ı Talat ve Fitnat (Mutual Love of Talat and Fitnat), to the Servet-i Fünûn period, the dynamics characterizing the initial phase and the development of the early Turkish novel are examined, while the authors' critical outlooks are used to scrutinize the social fabric of their time.
