Department of Musicology offers classes in General Musicology and Ethnomusicology (folk music and folklore research).
The basic courses in the General Musicology Program aim at examining and comparing various cultures from Europe to Asia, from America to Africa on an equal basis, also on sociological, historical, philosophical and artistic/aesthetical point of view, while focusing (mainly) on Turkey. In the courses of Musicology and Ethnomusicology, the aim is to find the reflections of these accumulations in music with specific examples.
In this context, the courses on art history, sociology, history of philosophy and history of music present the major cultures of the world to the students in a wide range, from the beginning until today, globally and objectively and supported with concrete data. One of the major goals is also to enlighten the future and the future of Turkey, in parallel with the political and social developments of our world today, anchoring from the points that are arrived in arts and music culture.
The courses are backed up with seminars offered by leading academics and specialists. The department also offers master’s and doctorate programs in musicology.
