Faculty of Architecture of Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, established 122 years ago, is the oldest institution of Turkey, in the field of architectural and fine arts education. Faculty of Architecture’s success is reflected in the fact that faculty members of other architectural schools are composed of its alumni. Behind the exceptional educational environment in Mimar Sinan, one can find the co-existence of architecture and fine arts departments under the same roof since its foundation. Fostering the interdisciplinary and wholistic idea contemporary educational approaches with conceptual and technical aspects of art and design defines the core of education at the Faculty of Architecture in Mimar Sinan.
The Faculty of Architecture has four departments, namely Department of Architecture, Department of urban and Regional Planning, Department of Industrial Design, Department of Interior Design. Admission to the Department of Architecture and Department of Urban and Regional Planning is through the nation-wide central university exam, while candidates for Department of Industrial Design and the department of Interior Design have to take the special eligibility text.
Presently, the faculty members of Architecture, 135 in total is composed of 13 professors, 6 associate professors, 62 assistant professors, 7 instructors, 44 research assistants and 3 specialists. The Faculty of Architecture has 1308 students. The education is designed at three stages, offering the associate, undergraduat and graduate degrees. Each of these stageshas a 2 year curriculum (4 semesters).
The main objective of the faculty of Architecture is to educate professionals and the academicians of design and architecture in the wider spectrum of design issues, with a strong technical and conceptual foundation as well as to provide design professionals for the major fields including public services, research, development, execution and publication.
The programs offered by the faculty have a very comprehensive franmework, ranging from regional planning to single building design and are structured to synchronize and enhance the student experiences throughout the design process with variant levels of sophistication including interior and product design.
The curriculums in the Faculty of Architecture are evaluated and redefined according to the educational objectives every year. In thsi scope, the auxiliary integration works for Life Long Learning and Youth programs have been in progress in view of maintaining co-operation between the European Universities. It is believed that the exchange programs between students and faculty members will promote and enhance the academic progress.
Due to the review and the arrangemenets in the regulations proceeded by the rector as a major reformation project at the university level, the Faculty of Architecture has re-evaluated the entire content of its regulations, made the arrangements for an inter-related contemporary learning environment and has the curriculums adjusted for the "credit-course system".
